Abbey College Manchester Celebrates Exceptional Year

Students at Abbey College Manchester celebrated a year of outstanding achievements at its annual awards ceremony, held at the iconic Radisson Blu Hotel recently.

In recognition of the students’ success, they were each presented with their ‘completion of studies’ certificates by the honoured ‘Friends of Abbey College’, including former staff; alumni and other supporters of the college.

During the evening, a number of special awards were presented, including Gold Standard awards and acknowledgements for attainment, resilience, perseverance and progress.

Chin Kei Ma, (17), from Salford was crowned The Student of the Year 2018. He received the prize for displaying the greatest talent, ability and overall contribution to the college.

Lara O’Donoghue, (19), of Whitworth Street, was honoured with the Jane Barraclough Award, in recognition of her contribution to the college community. The accolade is made in memory of the reverend of the Unitarian Chapel on Cross Street, who died a couple of years ago.

Students, parents, guardians and guests were impressed during the ceremony by an array of exceptional musical performances from talented Abbey College Manchester students, including pianists, guitarists and vocalists.

Principal at Abbey College Manchester, Liz Elam, said: “It is fantastic to see so many of you here. As we are fast approaching exams, this is the last occasion that we are able to come together and celebrate as a college community. The fact we are all here today confirms our motto of ‘Achieving Success Together’.

The students have a diverse and impressive range of university offers and it is clear we have many future leaders and decision makers coming from the class of 2018.”

There are around 210 students at the college, comprising a mix of students from the local area and from other countries. The college offers A-Level, GCSE, combined studies and International Foundation Programmes.
