Talented students at Abbey College Manchester have been recognised for their artistic abilities, following a creative competition.Abbey College Manchester students with their winning photography (L-R Shuyin Chen Beibarys Saparov Chen Zhu)
Art and Photography students from the leading independent college entered the challenge by submitting one image which they captured during a recent trip to Madrid.
The students were given the invaluable opportunity to be inspired by the sights and sounds of the vibrant Spanish city, being tasked to create sketches or capture images for their portfolios.
The educational trip saw the students explore many famous buildings and museums enabling them to appreciate the important art collections, and spectacular views. During a visit to an old tobacco factory where local artists exhibit their work, the graffiti-covered walls gave various opportunities for taking photos, as did the incredible view from the top of the renowned Palacio de Cibeles Centrocentro.
An excursion to Santiago Bernabeu satisfied football fans who were able to sit in the dugout and see the changing rooms, whilst others visited a local market. Some students also took inspiration from a flamenco show, a highly impressive display of the passion and intensity of the Spanish people.
A vast collection of impressive imagery was captured during the tour but it was sixteen-year-old, A-Level student Shuyin Chen who took home gold with her masterpiece. Shuyin of Darley Avenue, Chorlton, captured a contrast of light and dark with her image of statue heads along a corridor.
Principal, Liz Elam, said: “A magnitude of outstanding artwork has been produced as a result of this educational visit; the level of creative talent here at Abbey College Manchester is phenomenal.
The array of activities during the visit to Madrid meant that the students all had a different idea of their favourite moments, and they returned with the wonderful memories of a highly enjoyable trip.”
