Where do I start? I pulled up outside a rather impressive building in Daresbury, home to The Dental Academy, possibly the longest established private dental practice in the North West of England, fully expecting a standard tour of a lovely looking dental practice, writes Johanna Bolhoven.
Fast forward an hour and a half, and I had been privy to first look at their new beauty rooms; had a guided tour of their state-of-the-art dental laboratory and gained an insight into a rather impressive plan to develop a market garden on site.
The team at The Dental Academy are proud to have been carrying out high quality private dentistry to patients in Cheshire and the surrounding areas for many years.
They provide a range of dentistry services, from routine examinations through to cosmetic treatments such as teeth whitening and invisible braces, and they strive to retain the respect and recognition of their patients [and fellow dental colleagues] for their exceptional levels of patient care and treatment standards.
Boasting patients from as far afield as Singapore, Thailand and Hong Kong, it isn’t hard to believe they’ve achieved this.
They work hard not to be like any other dental practice so you will experience a very comfortable and peaceful environment from the moment you walk through the door, and the treatment rooms demonstrate a high level of commitment to the latest in technology and dental care.
The 27-strong team embodies a huge amount of knowledge and experience, and they’re all genuinely nice people who care passionately about the role they play in solving people’s dental problems.
experience and offer a complete, inside and out, tooth-to-toe service.
First up, the on-site dental laboratory.
Lead dentist at the Academy, Kevin Dodd, forged a clinical partnership with clinical dental technician, John Wibberley, which has developed over the past 25 years and has seen them both travelling the world to access the most advanced skills and techniques available.
Dental technicians traditionally work in a separate dental laboratory and rarely, if at all, come into contact with the patients themselves.
It has long been Kevin’s dream to bring the ‘laboratory’ aspect of dentistry on-site, which means that John is able to work in the surgery with patients to ensure the highest levels of clinical accuracy and patient care.
Daresbury Dental Laboratory now provides a full range of dental restorations such as crowns, bridges and implants, for all dentists working at the Dental Academy. They also allow patients to visit the laboratory to see their restorations being constructed with the opportunity to have a personalised visit for colour matching either in the laboratory or in surgery, and if you are offered the chance, I highly recommend it.
John continues: “The relationship and communication between dentist and technician is of paramount importance. This new venture means we can create a bespoke service where the deciding factor determining the quality of work is not time but the knowledge we hold and the skills in the hands of our talented laboratory team.”
The Dental Academy is no stranger to offering complimentary beauty treatments (you can read my review of The Knutsford Medi and Beauty Spa based at their Knutsford clinic, in the March 2015 issue), and their new purpose-built treatment room and manicure/pedicure area will offer everything to keep you in tip-top condition.
Located on the top floor of the Dental Academy, Image 28 (named after the field location) will be their very own beauty salon offering a wide range of services, the very latest beauty treatments and home-care products by Elemis.
The spacious rooms and high ceilings allow daylight to enter without compromising privacy for patients, and you can expect good, friendly and professional “service with a smile” from beauty manager, Carrie Hartley, who has more than 24 years’ experience in the profession.
Jan Dodds, dental implant treatment co-ordinator, said: “As dental professionals we understand that health, safety and hygiene is of the utmost importance and we follow the highest of standards in every service we provide, from dental to beauty. We constantly ask ourselves ‘does this treatment meet the strict clinical governance we apply to our dental practice, and we’re happy to say the answer is ‘yes’.”
Inside and out
In a bid to improve eating habits, promote a healthier lifestyle and to encourage the appreciation of healthier foods, the Dental Academy is also embarking on Project 28, the creation of a market garden [in the existing grounds] that will grow seasonal vegetables, herbs and flowers, for patients and businesses to purchase.
The team hopes to start growing in December with the results bearing fruit in Spring 2018. On your next visit, look out the window, take a moment to appreciate the stunning views and take a sneaky peek at this impressive development.
