Prestbury Choral Society’s recent ‘Singing Day’ was a real treat for the many singers from far and wide who attended. There was a short performance for family and friends at the end of the day, and everyone went away on a high.
Now in good voice, the choral society are preparing for their forthcoming Spring concert when they will be accompanied by a string orchestra and the outstanding Richard Brocklehurst playing the new organ.
The programme features Kodaly: Missa Brevis, with its lyrical melodies, haunting chords, energetic sections, but also moments of emotional intensity; Rheinberger’s Stabat Mater which has a popular traditional quality, while Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna is a contemporary classic with an emotional uplifting pull which is a magnet for choirs and music lovers worldwide; Monteverdi’s Beatus Vir, a setting of Psalm 112, and an excellent example of his dramatic style in baroque music, completes the programme. This eclectic mix of glorious choral music has something for everyone.
The concert starts at 7.30pm on Saturday 14th April at St Bartholomew’s Church, Chancel Lane, Wilmslow, SK9 4AA. Tickets: £10.00; concessions £9.00. Available at the door or via www.prestburychoral.uk or telephone 01625 584337.
