Spirit & Grace is a new women’s fashion brand that is dedicated to creating beautifully constructed, high-quality clothing at an accessible price point.
I had the pleasure of attending the launch of this exciting new label at specialist off-licence Laithwaite’s Wines’ northern flagship store in Alderley Edge, on Thursday 13 February, writes Johanna Bolhoven.Moonstone Dress £135 Smokey Quartz Dress – £145.
This inspiring and original first collection by Emily Holmes-Naden evolved out of the designer’s frustration at the fashion industry’s lack of luxurious yet affordable clothing.Emily Holmes-Naden (left) with Deborah Summerfield.
Self-confessed ‘girly girl’ Emily, told me: “There’s a distinctive gap between the throwaway contemporary market and luxury fashion. I wanted to create a luxurious brand that holds effortless style at its heart but isn’t extortionate.”
The brand offers the look and feel of luxury at an affordable price, and there’s nothing to hate about that. The overall look is clean, minimal and romantic; in short it celebrates femininity in its purest form.
The event, which was organised and hosted by creative events and marketing company, Blackwave Agency, saw approximately 50 family and friends, media and fashion bloggers gather to view the brand’s first clothing line, the Quartz collection.
Guests enjoyed an evening of fine wine and nibbles before the fashion show, which showcased 15 pieces from the collection. The venue was dressed to impress, transformed by dozens of flower and fairy light garlands installed by a family friend and freelance events florist, Sue Mitchell.
Emily has a sparkling personality and says she gets inspiration for her collections from the wearer’s natural grace and individual spirit. Her designs are also very reflective of her own personal style.
Buy now, wear forever
A fashion design & styling graduate from Salford University, Emily cut her teeth at fashion giants Tom Ford, Burberry, Harrods and Selfridges, to name a few, in New York and London. She returned to Cheshire in 2018 and started designing the ‘Quartz’ collection in January 2019.
She continues: “My aim was to create timeless, feminine and classic designs; wardrobe essentials that will keep you chic from season to season. The pieces in this collection are designed to be worn from morning to midnight, regardless of the occasion.”
Low-key luxury for beautiful spirits
Clothes were modelled on the catwalk and guests were encouraged to view the collections before and after the show, and generally get a feel for the range.Angelite Mini Dress – £115 White Celestite Dress – £175
NARS make-up created the models’ stunning hair and beauty look, inspired by the collections to create a fresh, dewy look with a warm finish.
Emily gave special thanks to close friend and Financial Director at Blackwave Agency, Deborah Summerfield, who organised everything from the sound and lighting in the venue, to sourcing products for the goody bags and choreography for the fashion show.
Deborah is mum to Oliver Summerfield, known locally as the ‘The Event King’, who set up Northern Quarter based events and marketing company, Blackwave Agency, in June 2016.
