Sporting activity in Chelford received a tremendous boost, last month, with the opening of the village’s multi-purpose activity park. The park brings a panoply of sports such as basketball, netball, tennis, Kwik Cricket and a BMX track to the village.
The new facility was officially opened by Rachel Burden, of BBC Radio 5 Live, and Cheshire East Clr, George Walton.
Once the ribbon was cut, Manchester Giants offered basketball coaching to all and sundry; Macclesfield’s Pink Ladies demonstrated netball skills and Chelford Cricket Club raised the tempo further with Kwik cricket.
Kath Gildon, chairman of Chelford Parish Council, said the project was the result of a great community effort. “I would like to acknowledge the support of local businesses, Roberts Bakery, John Robinson of Robinson’s Brewery, Holliday Construction, Andrew Norbury of AJN Landscapes and Norman Belfield of NB Services.
“We have received excellent sponsorship from WREN, Cheshire East Council, Peaks and Plains Housing Trust, Barclays Bank and Sport Cheshire.”
But most of all she praised all the volunteers and thevillageofChelfordfor every contribution, assistance and piece of encouragement that has made the project successful.
