Over 200 members of the Manchester High School for Girls community gathered recently to mark the School’s 140th anniversary and to raise money for its Bursary fund. The fundraising Ball, held at the Lowry Hotel, raised £18,500 to help bright girls, whose parents’ financial circumstances would otherwise prevent them from attending the School, benefit from a MHSG education.

The lively atmosphere at the Lowry was boosted by a range of celebrities and sporting figures including Robbie Williams, Olly Murs, José Mourinho and Alessandro Del Piero, as the Soccer Aid 2014 teams celebrated at the same venue.

Footballer, Jamie Redknapp made the time to come and meet the headmistress, Claire Hewitt, and to wish the school good luck with the fundraising event.
Mrs Hewitt said: “We were delighted to see our supporters celebrate our 140th anniversary together and raise funds for this important cause. Throughout the School’s history we have provided assistance with fees and the funds continue to make a big impact on young girls’ lives. I should like to take this opportunity to thank all those who attended for their generosity.”
The event was sponsored by Plas Coch holiday homes, local solicitors JMW and independent financial advisors Pareto.
