Starting a business in a recession can often be a good idea as, if you can survive the tough times, you’ll flourish in the good times.

Lymm businessman and radio presenter, Ian James, is proving to be a great example of that with his new venture, the Lymm Candle Company “One day when I was out shopping, I saw a candle for sale that was nearly fifty pounds. It was lovely but I was shocked at the cost so I thought I’d have a go at making some myself to sell at a more affordable price.”
The candles are made from natural soy wax and, Ian says, people are much more discerning these days when it comes to buying candes “Years ago many candles smelled like air fresheners and were overpowering. These days, people want a more subtle fragrance and natural wax without any toxins.”
Ian started selling his candles on market stalls. He now has a website www.lymmcandleco.co.uk. Soon, Ian is hoping to branch out into bath salts and shower gels.
This local entrepreneur certainly knows how to sniff out a gap in the market.
