Teresa Krebs and her husband, Pierre, took over Cawley’s Guest House based in Tubbercurry, Co Sligo, after over twenty-five years’ experience working with the Hyatt group internationally. Established in 1964 by Teresa’s parents Joe and Jean Cawley, the guesthouse has been passed down to the next generation to place their mark on Irish hospitality.
Renowned for its warm, friendly welcome Cawley’s Restaurant offers something to suit all palates in the form of lunch and á la carte served seven days a week. It also offers 14 bedrooms.
“We have a hidden surprise for our guests in the form of a unique walled garden terrace. People can enjoy al fresco dining or meet for BBQ events on warmer evenings” Teresa told us.
Cawleys is an ideal base to enjoy Sligo, which is an angler’s paradise, with facilities for coarse and game fishing in the numerous lakes, loughs and rivers around the county.
You only have to decide what interests you from salmon fishing in Ballysadare fisheries, brown trout on Lough Arrow, rainbow trout on a private trout lake near Ballymote, pike, perch or bream in the remote lakes in the Ox mountain or sea fishing for Mackerel, ray, wrasse, cod, spurdog, coal fish, pollack, bluefish or ling in Mullaghmore.
Either a one day or season license is required for salmon fishing. This can be arranged prior to your visit. A license is not required for other fishing.
Pierre explained: “If you are novice fishermen or do not know the area, we would recommend a gilly which we can arrange for you.
For salmon fishing we recommend Ballysadare fisheries which is located half an hour from us. Reservations are essential on this river and a quota system applies.
This fishery opens from April 1st with a maximum of one fish per day up to and including May 13th, two fish taken per day per angler from May 14th until the end of August and again one fish per day until the end of September.
If you would like to vary your fishing while you are here our gilly can suggest different options during your stay.”
