Danielle touches down for England

Sports student Danielle Bound, from Longford near Warrington, has been named in the 24-strong England squad for the Women’s Rugby League World Cup, which takes place in July.

Danielle has been playing Rugby since she was six years old and has played for England before, including a match  against France, one of the teams in the England’s group, so Danielle is feeling confident for a good result in the World Cup. “I’m absolutely overwhelmed and really excited, it’s a great honour to be playing for the team.  I’ve been with the England squad for over a year now, but this is definitely the high point of my international career”.

In the Rugby World Cup England will face stiff competition from Australia, France and three-time winners New Zealand but Danielle believes that the team can win.

“I’ve played a match against France before and England won which is a real boost for our confidence. The team is a good mix of experience, the oldest player is 30, and younger players such as myself. We are motivated and determined to work hard on the pitch and I feel we have the skills to be successful. New Zealand will be playing to retain their title and Australia will be coming here confident as well but we’re on our home ground and we’ll be going out there to make sure we win.”
