This week saw the official opening of Macclesfield College’s new Automotive Training facility at Fence Avenue.

The facility was acquired by the College in 2012 and converted from a light industry unit to house four ramps; a number of brand new engines, classrooms, break areas and industry-standard tools and equipment.
The ribbon was cut by quite possibly the first female to race in Formula One – Alice Powell.
Before cutting the ribbon – which was appropriately tied between two engines –Alice said she was impressed with facilities at the new site and hoped they continued to inspire young people to enter the industry.
“This a fantastic facility – if I had had facilities like this when I was younger, I would’ve been over the moon” said Alice. “It is students and apprentices in workshops like this that we are looking to come into motor sport and work with the teams. It is so important to have the support of good engineers and mechanics. It is a long road but if you work hard you can make it happen. Everything you see in the industry, it all started here in workshops.”
