Lily celebrates 100th birthday with afternoon tea

In celebration of her 100th birthday Lily Dawson and her family, including her granddaughter Christina who now works at Carden Park, visited the Cheshire resort where they enjoyed afternoon tea.

Lily, now from Bangor-on-Dee near Wrexham, was born at the Carden Estate in April 1913, seven months after a fire destroyed the main hall, which was rumoured to have been started by an abandoned cigarette.

“We lived in the Monument Lodge which had two sides, our family slept in one side and lived in the other, there were six of us in total with me, my mother and father and my two brothers and one sister.

At the time we lived there, the Leche family owned the estate and my mother told me they often said they wanted to adopt me because of my big blue eyes”

During her recent visit the team at Carden presented Lily with a bouquet of flowers and a framed photograph of her Father taken in 1912 stood in front of the remains of the main hall following the fire.
