Prestbury Choral Society’s busy season continues apace. After the wonderful ‘Verdi Requiem’ concert performed with the Lancaster Singers and Lancashire Sinfonietta in the magnificent Victoria Hall, Bolton, followed by its traditional Christmas concert in St. Peter’s Church, Prestbury, in December, the choir is looking forward to its annual popular ‘Singing Day’ in February.Verdi Requiem Concert
Musical director, Simon Mercer, will guide the ‘choir for a day’ through the ever popular classic, Carmina Burana, by Carl Orff, towards an informal performance at the end of the day.
This wonderful work, with its lyricism, romantic intensity and driving rhythm, is a great introduction to serious music, particularly for those who have little or no singing experience.
The day is open to all, experienced singers and novices alike, and provides an opportunity to improve singing skills and learn new ones. It promises to be an exhilarating day…and a lot of fun. We expect it to be very popular and numbers are limited, so book early to avoid disappointment!
The ‘Singing Day’ will take place at Prestbury C of E Primary School, Bollin Grove, Prestbury on Saturday 15th February beginning with registration and coffee from 9.30am and the first session at 10.15am.
Musical scores will be provided, and the fee for the day will be £20. Full details and a registration form are available at www.prestburychoral.org or by telephoning 01625 828875.
Future dates for the diary include Saturday 5th April, and Saturday 7th June, when the choir will perform Handel’s Messiah and Vivaldi’s Gloria and Magnificat with a special commission by Sasha Johnson Manning respectively at St Bartholomew’s Church in Wilmslow.
Concert-goers should note the change of venue for these concerts as St Peter’s Church, Prestbury, is unavailable due to building work.
