Pretty Little Things

Marie Jo JaneAs reported in my key trends article in the January issue, sultry transparency is fast becoming spring’s answer to combining the sexy with the demure, and lingerie trends are not far behind; this season texture plays a key part with layering, with sheers such as mesh and tulles, all worn to highlight the beauty of a woman’s body creating a modern yet delicate feel. As if we need an excuse to embrace our inner ballerina!

In terms of colour you can expect to see a palette of neutral colours punctuated by blush pinks and peaches, sitting alongside an ocean of colour with inspiration being drawn from the vast powerful summer seas.

Cut out detail is still prevalent, mixing the masculine with the feminine, and underwear as outerwear will continue to be a big trend with a lot of day-to-night dressing. Nightwear and loungewear will sit seamlessly alongside lingerie with pretty florals and delicate fabrics.

So whether you don a 90s inspired slip dress or are brave enough to show a flash of knicker, let’s make sure your top drawer is up to the task.

Take care of me

So you’ve just invested your latest paycheck on a few lovely pieces of lingerie and you want to preserve them in the best condition for a long time.

Taking proper care of your lingerie will make it last longer and fit better….

  • Hand wash your items rather than machine wash and in a mild detergent such as Soak, available in-store at your local lingerie shop. Soak is perfect for washing your laciest lingerie, softest sweaters, swimwear, workout wear, quilts and all the delicates you care about. Simply soak for a few minutes in it’s unique no-rinse formula.
  • Do not squash the bra or padding while washing as it will deform the shape. Just press them gently. Put the cup of the bra in the centre of one palm and use your fist from the other hand to press against the cup, this will drain out the water without squashing the cups.
  • Hang-dryyour delicates (always!) over a drying rack or lay flat on a clean, dry Top tip: Don’t hang the bra by its straps, as this will cause the elastic to stretch out.
