Pupils’ colourful Chinese New Year festival

Manchester High School for Girls’ preparatory department celebrated Chinese New Year in style in February, marking the year of the Snake.

The girls performed a Dragon procession with a fabulous costume they had made themselves. Magical lion dancing and various other activities such as Chinese craft making and cookery transformed the prep area into a real Chinese festival.

MHSG has a forward thinking approach to its curriculum with girls studying Mandarin in Years 3-6, and the Chinese Year celebrations were an especially exciting celebration for them, giving the girls a real flavour of the culture behind the language they study.
