A group of applied science students fromMacclesfieldCollegehave been experiencing life in the lab at local employer AstraZeneca.
The students made the short trip to the labs recently for a guided tour and to get a first-hand glimpse of the work taking place at the facility.
Lecturer Amy White explained “During the visit to AstraZeneca, we were able to tour the microbiology labs and the analytical labs and view processes such as dissolution, high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and UV Vis along with looking at samples of micro-organisms.”
“Students were able to get dressed up in the full anti-contamination gowns worn within the microbiology labs and to look at the intricate work completed by the scientists at AZ in order to manufacture the medicines and drugs.
As well as providing a useful look at science in a real-life working context, the visit gave the students a chance to ask important questions about pursuing a career in the industry:
