Sue Brownson OBE

Sue Brownson OBE, managing director of The Blue Bell motor group of Wilmslow, died on Friday 3 May.

She had been suffering from cancer for some time but remained active in the business until her death.

She joined the Blue Bell Group in 1975, initially as finance director but held several positions within the motor industry including chairman of the Retail Motor Industry franchised dealer division, and vice chairman of the Royal Automobile Club. She was a fellow of the Institute of the Motor Industry and was admitted to the Freedom of the City of London. She was made a Master of the Worshipful Company of Coachmakers and Coach Harnessmakers in September 2011.

She had just finished five years as a judge for Enterprise in the UK and was a judge for Women in Retail.

In 2007 she was inducted into the Automotive Management Hall of Fame in recognition of her outstanding dedication to the retail motor industry. She was awarded the OBE in 1997 for services to the retail motor industry.
